FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) INTERCOOLER FROM WAGNER TUNING

The topic of intercoolers is very complex, as there are many technical details to consider. Many of our customers therefore ask themselves - quite rightly - a few questions before they decide on a new intercooler from WAGNER TUNING. We have compiled the questions that reach us most frequently here for your information. If you click on the question, you will find our answer.

What is the benefit of an intercooler?

The benefits of an intercooler from WAGNER TUNING are manifold. For one thing, the turbocharger - since the intercooler generates less back pressure - reaches the programmed boost pressure more easily and quickly. This leads to a relief of the turbocharger and to a better response behaviour. On the other hand, intercooler tuning causes the air compressed by the turbocharger to be cooled down considerably. This leads to a higher proportion of oxygen in the air delivered and thus to an increase in engine performance.

How much power does an intercooler from WAGNER TUNING provide?

In fact, this question cannot be answered so sweepingly. The actual increase in performance depends on various, sometimes changing factors, such as the ambient temperature, the software version or other hardware components on the vehicle. In principle, however, after the installation of an intercooler from WAGNER TUNING one can assume a performance increase of 5-10%.

What disadvantages does a larger intercooler from WAGNER TUNING have?

In short: none. In fact, retrofitting an intercooler to your vehicle does your vehicle good, because thanks to the intercooler the turbocharger is relieved and combustion is more efficient.

Does an intercooler have to be registered?

A retrofitted, larger intercooler is a component subject to registration, so it is necessary to arrange for registration of the intercooler For some of our products, we have already had part certificates drawn up, which facilitate the registration. All other products of WAGNER TUNING can be registered via an individual acceptance according to §21 StVZO; for this purpose we can provide a declaration of no objection by the manufacturer.

Is a custom-made product possible?

A custom-made product is of course possible at WAGNER TUNING. For individually manufactured intercoolers, we recommend our intercooler configurator, where intercoolers can be generated individually in just a few steps. If you should not find what you are looking for here, or if you are interested in custom-made other engine parts, please send us your inquiry using our contact form.

How do I become a WAGNER TUNING dealer?

Thank you for your interest in working with WAGNER TUNING! In order for us to be able to inform you of the specific dealer conditions, we need some information from you. For dealer verification, please submit a digital copy of your business registration, your VAT identification number / VAT number and a link to your website. You are also welcome to use our contact form for an initial inquiry.

Is express shipping possible?

If it should be particularly quick, express deliveries and Saturday deliveries within Germany are possible by prior arrangement. Since the exact shipping costs vary depending on the individual case, we kindly request you to use our contact form.

Can intercoolers from WAGNER TUNING be used in combination with products from other manufacturers?

As a rule, it is possible to have intercoolers from WAGNER TUNING registered with other tuning components. In our parts appraisal no other components are excluded per se.

Advice: Always speak to your TÜV inspector for entries without a parts certificate. If you have any questions, you can reach us by phone or via our contact form.

What is the difference between performance and competition?

The fundamental difference between performance on the one hand and competition on the other lies in the structure of the intercooler net. In the area of performance, it is a bar & plate net, while we use a tube fin net for our charge air coolers from the competition area.

The bar & plate net originally comes from simple industrial production and has been used as a charge air cooler network for a long time, because it can be produced cheaply in any version. The basic structure of this network, however, ensures a higher weight or an increased proportion of material, which leads to the storage of the heat from the charge air if the load continues. The production of a tube fin net is more complex and therefore more expensive due to the necessary use of special tools. This type of net has a significantly lower proportion of material - and therefore less weight -, which means that the tube fin net can better dissipate the high temperatures to the environment and thus work even more efficiently.

What is the difference between FMIC, TMIC and SMIC?

This question is answered quickly when you look at the terms that are hidden behind the English-language abbreviations: An FMIC (Front Mounted Intercooler) is a charge air cooler that sits in the center of the front of the vehicle, whereas an SMIC (Side Mounted Intercooler) located laterally in the front of the vehicle. A TMIC (Top Mounted Intercooler) has its place directly on the engine.
